On My Walks
July 16 - September 11, 2016
One of the pleasures of walking with your eyes wide open is seeing with wonder at every turn. Valerie Cargo loves to take walks, but never without her camera. Exposed to wind and waves, rain, snow and stormy skies, she interacts with nature to capture precious moments in time. Her inspiration comes from her immediate environment: the shores of Lake Huron and the landscape surrounding Kincardine, her hometown. Cargo portraits these sites as a place of tranquility, mystery, and solitude, where people hardly ever factor in. The atmospheric intensity in Cargo’s photographs speaks to the ever-changing moods she finds in this environment. There is a poetic and nostalgic feel to her imagery. Cargo’s show invites the viewer to immerse themselves in those striking works of art.
Valerie Cargo studied Fashion Design at Sheridan College. Twenty years later she return to school to study New Media at Humber College where she won the President's Award and the Polaroid Award in Photography. Since then she has been exhibiting her work across Ontario and the USA.
